It has been quite awhile since the launch of the Aha Halo and the software continues to be very buggy. People still get “exception errors”, stuck on firmware and software updates, etc.
When there is a software update available a pop-up lets you know but asks to restart the program in admin mode (?). When clicking on OK the program restarts, the halo screen comes up momentarily and disappears. Manually restarting, starts downloading and hangs there forever. If we cancel the update, a pop-up comes up saying that the update was successful(!!!) but nothing has been updated!
With the variety of especially Windows configurations, it is sadly never possible to ensure flawless software functionality for every user.
The reason an application needs to restart in Admin mode is otherwise it is not possible to overwrite the application files with the downloaded new version. You can of course make the application start each time in Admin mode by checking the appropriate checkbox in its file property settings to avoid this restart procedure.
Basically the application run in Admin mode will not differ in its behavior, so you should see the update window with the options to install or ignore it shortly after (re)start. It is strange you saw it in normal user but not in Admin mode, and without acknowledging the download and install procedure on this window there shouldn’t be any update.
If something goes wrong after this step, the main suspects on Windows systems are firewalls or antivirus/protection software which might block the download or unzipping and replacement of the files. The app logs its functions for debugging purposes. Did you contact the support team and/or send the appropriate log files to them? I am sure a screen video, if possible, would be helpful too in this case.
If an update fails, it should always be possible to install the new version from the installer on the harmony website. Your database configuration and personal application settings will not be overridden by this.
“With the variety of especially Windows configurations, it is sadly never possible to ensure flawless software functionality for every user”.
Then why Spooky2 software runs flawlessly on all versions of Windows, all the way back to XP?
On our computers we also run many other programs too, without any problems. If an error occurs sometimes, it is corrected immediately and will never occur again. In the case of Halo software, the errors are repeated continuously and instead of correcting them we blame it on… Windows!!!
I agree the Windows updates are still very buggy. For the most recent database update, it took three starts in Admin mode before I had success. The first time the app started and told me there was an update, the update window disappeared before I could click any of the buttons. Second try, button click seemed to not be recognized. The third try, it finally started doing the download.
Honestly, I have begun starting in Admin mode to begin with just to avoid the problems I have had if I started normally.
I am sure the problems will get worked out, but definitely not there yet.
I can’t even get into admin mode. The button doesn’t respond, though it has done in the past. There is a message saying “downloading” but 10 minutes later nothing seems to have happened.
I tried completely reloading the software from the website but that’s an old version anyway and it wasn’t successful.
To add to that, for untechy people, some of the advice given here might as well be written in ancient Greek.
Just to be clear, how are you getting into Admin mode? I assume you are talking running Admin on Windows.
The way I know to do it, is I have to shut down the currently running app. On my shortcut on my desktop, I right click with the mouse, so the menu page shows, then select the “Run as Administrator” option.
I had originally thought the buttons on the app would do what was needed, but figured out that was not correct.
The admin button on the app has worked for me previously. Hopefully it’s just a temporary glitch.
I have the same problem with the delete programme button. Sometimes it works fast and sometimes it freezes up the programme and I have to task manager out.
Hi, just wonderful. Thank you so much.
Just turned off the bluetooth on my computer as suggested and it worked immediately. My device is now recognized and I can load and delete programs! I had been trying everything for days! (lucky enough, it worked on another computer… and guess what, I never turn the bluetooth on that one!)
Thanks a million. Have a brilliant day.
