The unit is malfunctioning in multiple ways and all but once has not been recognized by the software. It has been malfunctioning since day 1.
My China support was responsive via email, however was not familiar with Apple computers. I want to emphasize that he was very supportive and friendly.
When we couldn’t resolve the many issues I’m having via email, I was asked if I would download “TeamViewer” software and schedule a live session.
I HAD TO ASK MULTIPLE TIMES FOR US TO BE ABLE TO TALK BY VOICE. FINALLY HE DID. VERY NICE GUY, BUT UNABLE TO ASSIST ME.
MOST DISTURBING WAS THAT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A SCREEN SHARE WAS ACTUALLY SOFTWARE THAT ALLOWED HIM TO CONTROL MY COMPUTER. Do not allow TEAMVIEWER software on your computer.
When we realized he couldn’t help me, I tried to Quit Teamview and the software would not quit. Then, of course, I couldn’t delete it bc “it was in use”.
THIS IS VERY CONCERNING. I finally did a “force quit”, shut down my computer and took it off line. I am freaked out with concern that there is some worm in my computer now.
Spooky folks, was this support protocol vetted? Did you vet this software they use to control your computer? Most support teams “screenshare”.
Please, will someone from the UK contact me so we can get this resolved? I’ve had this unit for 3 weeks now and and the software downloads onto the device AND the device are not working.
Hi Dee,
as halo is a new app and you can tell with certainty there will be some configurations which cause trouble (way more often Windows than macOS), it logs its actions into a file for easier debugging. Did the support help you to locate the files and send them?
There is of course always the chance your halo device is defective, so let‘s try to find out:
– halo came with some programs preinstalled. Are these available? Can you run them?
– you wrote “software downloads onto the device”. Can you elaborate please what you mean exactly? It worked once – was there any difference in your setup at this time?
– When you connect halo to your Mac, do you see a CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller in System Report/USB?
– Do you use a USB hub or dock to connect USB devices? Are any other devices installed? If so, disconnect all others temporarily and connect halo directly to your Mac.
– For online help, some software must be used to view what’s going on on your Mac. The fact that team viewer does allow remote control too should not worry you as the Mac’s security features do not allow installation of any persistent files without explicit user permission.
– In what way(s) is the device malfunctioning?
I deleted it before shutting down my desk top last night and then emptied the trash. — I had to force quit it prior to that (It would just let me “quit”). I’m on that computer now.
I just restarted the computer and not only was it back in my Apps folder, it was running again and again, I couldn’t just quit it. I had to force quit again and then delete it again and then empty my trash again…getting the picture?
Just sayin’ it’s invasive and I won’t be using it again.
